Ada Horn
Khin Than Horn Yin — known to friends and collectors as Ada Horn — was a watercolor artist, traveler, and gentle soul whose eyes always found beauty in quiet places.
Her brushes carried the light of Maui, the colors of Europe, and the calm of the Swiss mountains she loved.
Born in Myanmar to a Burmese mother and Chinese father, Ada’s life bridged cultures and continents.
She later made her home in Switzerland, a place whose still lakes and high trails reflected her own quiet balance between movement and contemplation.
In her later years, Ada divided her time between Switzerland and Maui, Hawai‘i.
She first came to Maui to support her sister’s family after an unexpected loss — and in that act of love, she found a new creative home.
The island’s luminous skies and shifting waters opened something within her, and her art began to speak with new confidence and grace.
Her paintings — known for their stillness and meditative light — were once honored in a Japanese art competition for their Zen-like serenity, with a ceremony held in Kyoto.
She was twice selected as Artist in Residence aboard the Queen Elizabeth II, where her works brought the calm of water and sky to travelers at sea.
Ada’s Trail continues her journey — honoring her wish that what she loved might return to nature: lightly, peacefully, and with gratitude.
This path is guided by her presence — not as a host, but as a quiet companion. Her art, her laughter, and her way of seeing the world continue to walk beside us, step by step.
