Crossing the Pass — Weather Permitting

A Quiet Passage Across the Alps

A step closer to Ada’s light.

When I set out on November 2, from Faido to Rossura and on to Airolo, I’ll be preparing for the crossing of the Alps the next day — weather permitting.

That’s the preliminary plan. When I reach the St. Gotthard Pass around noon on November 3, I’ll see whether the mountain allows the passage.
Ice and snow will decide.

There’s no way to know beforehand — only the moment will tell.
It will be one of the last days this year when a crossing on foot might still be possible, if I’m lucky.
Otherwise, there will be no way across the Alps by foot.

In that case, I’ll descend again and take the train from Airolo to Göschenen, through the 15-kilometre Gotthard tunnel.

I’ll keep you updated here.

What’s the idea behind it all?

Why go to Andermatt, and then take the train to Zermatt?
And why Zermatt — of all places?

And why do I go to Andermatt and then take the train to Zermatt?

Perhaps this photo gives a hint.

You see Ada skiing there, long before we ever met — radiant, alive, completely at ease with the world.

I want to complete that part of her journey by returning to a place where she was boundless and happy.

To walk a few of her steps, in spirit — and honour the joy that once carried her so effortlessly through the snow.

I’ll share more about the plans in the coming days.
For now, that’s where the path leads.
